summary

According to legend, an Ethiopian goatherd hopped after eating coffee cherries and spring together with his goats. Coffee was a beverage for African tribesmen. Everywhere in the world is selling coffee. All 50 exporting countries rely upon coffee as a major source of income. Million of people depend upon it on living. A frost damaged half of the country’s three billion coffee trees. In 1979, frost hit Brazil again. Loss of a single tree means the loss of income on that spot for the three to five years it takes to replace it. 15 million trees were lost. Brazil stops all shipments of coffee. Farmers rush in to plant as prices rose. Coffee was too much and prices fall. Farmers tear up their plants and put in more stable crops. Producers and consumers agree that the only sensible solution is to limit output to what the market can absorb, have a reserve.

Lukas family was worried because he was missing. She knows what to do when there are bigfeet along the way. They searched for Lukas until dark same thing happened to my aunt at Karatara. Everybody reckons it must have been the bigfeet that killed him. They went t search for everywhere. Malie and Sofie make a big fire in the middle of the Island; if the child has fallen asleep somewhere and wake up; he'll see the glow and come back. They tell the nearest forester about the missing child. Fourteen woodcutters were taking part in the search. Accept that the child can no longer be alive. On the fifth day, there were thirty. Wherever the news had spread through the Forest, the woodcutters laid down their axes and came to help. On the sixth day there were forty. MEMORIES
“Why things happened in these ways? God please have mercy on us!”, cried Rijwan intensively as everywhere was disasters and Rijwan would hide under the bamboo table whenever there was gunshot and rioting. “I can't believe my eyes, that I am seeing these.” Rijwan exclaimed horribly in a stunned look. River turned red and everywhere was on fire and dead body could be seen lying on the street. “How I wish that days will go just like the past.” Rijwan chanted as he pleaded to the god. In the past, the villagers looked happy and satisfied and everything was very peaceful. The river flows gently and Rijwan will stroll along the river with his parents. But soon, horrors came.

Many conflicts started to come by. And unfortunately, Rijwan family was also affected. His parents were shocked upon hearing that they had not been granted the citizenship. Rijwan and his family had felt discriminated. Rijwan and his family soon heard about the new university admission criteria. "I cannot believe it! They are too much!” Rijwan said unbelievably as he punch the wall with his knuckles. All of them were shocked and stunned upon hearing the terrible news. One of the criteria was that the pupils must be Sinhalese and the second criteria was that the pupils must be Ceylon citizen. Rijwan was heartbroken and angry at the same time after knowing it, as he studied very hard to get into university. That was not all, the official language had been changed to Sinhalese. This made the Tamils even hard to survive under the economies. Rijwan had to give up his hopes of entering the university as he was a Tamil.
"What should we do?" said one of the Tamil villagers in a confused look. After the discussions, all of the male decided to join the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. They also decided to join the rioting against the government forces to gain independent for the Tamil homeland. However, Rijwan parent disagreed with this idea as they felt that this would cause more chaos to occur.

Soon, sound of gunshots, bombs, screaming and shouting could be heard everywhere. Rijwan can never enjoy strolling with his family along the river happily again. They will be happy if they have three meals a day. As Rijwan father was going out of the house to get some food for his family, one of the Sinhalese soldiers pointed the gun at Rijwan father’s head.
"I hate all the Sinhalese," Rijwan hollered furiously," they are making our life so miserable."
Rijwan growled,"i want to take revenge for my father!"And soon, he suggested an idea to his mother.
“No! I won't let you join the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and join them for the war.It is too dangerous to let you join the war.” Rijwan mother shouted without hesitation.
“But I wanted to help my village from the destruction and I want to revenge for my beloved father and to end the war so that we will not be that poor and back to our normal life.” Rijwan exclaimed with sad and hopeless voice and gave a sigh.
“You are my only son and I can't afford to lose you.” Rijwan mother ended the conversation by hugging him and gave him a kiss on Rijwan cheek.

The populations of the village had fallen as lots of people were dead during the gunfire. These village, once used to be filled with laughter had became silent and monotone. Rijwan had never anticipated these days. They had no choice but to leave their village behind them. “I like this place, it filled with my childhood memories. I can't bear to leave this place! "Rijwan said emotionally. But it seemed useless. Rijwan felt disappointed as he had longed for peaceful days to come. However, a few weeks the leader of the LTTE was killed.
Will this mark the arrival of peaceful days?
Or the worst has yet to come?

A ride to Singapore Flyer(final draft )

Eric Lew Shao Quan (27) 3E3 A ride to the Singapore Flyer

It was on 28th May when I was sitting nervously in the bus on the way to The Singapore Flyer which is a giant observation wheel to have a spectacular and panoramic view of Singapore. I had heard from my friends and relatives said that the Singapore Flyer was very exciting and fun. I could not imagine that I would have a chance to have a ride on the Singapore flyer as the ticket was expensive and I could hardly afford it. But due to the some subsidized from the school and I can have a ride on the Singapore flyer. I really appreciated what the school had done for us. Upon reaching the entrance, I could feel a big object hanging up above my head. To my surprised, it is the Singapore Flyer and I heard my heart pumping hardly.

Entering the huge capsule, I filled with excitement and anxiety and my heart was pumping even more fast as it seem going to be pop out soon. And soon, the capsule went higher and higher and I could feel butterflies in my stomach. At the top, it was definitely a stunning view; breath-taking and it was bird‘s eye view and hazy vision. I stared in wonderment at the window and I saw the Marina Barrage which was so beautiful, Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort as it was still under construction, the Fullerton Singapore, Merlion Park which was huge and beautiful status which look like lion with mermaid and Padang. There also Esplanade which looked likes durian shell. Floating stadium which look amazing and mysterious as it was floating. Lastly, New Bridge, designed as a double helix structure. The Marina Barrage was a dam built at the mouth of the Marina Bay area that opens out to sea .It will also create a fresh-water reservoir behind it. The Merlion, a half-fish, half-lion hybrid is a commanding presence standing 86 metres.

I felt that it was high and nice as the view of the building is great and it is fun as I took a lot of pictures of the view of the building and sea and the nature during the ‘flight. My expectation had met as it was exhilarating and joyous. And I was wondering that pupils who have agoraphobia and claustrophobia have wasted a great and rare chance to experience a ride which full of anticipated fear, a wonderful learning journey.

We had taken pictures together with my friends and doing work together and these is where teamwork came about. It was fun and memorable and was cacophony of students’ chatter. I saw a magnificent structure which has a thirteen digit structure and has a thirteen floor. I think it is cool, nice and creative to build this kind of superb engineering feat.

I think it was a trip that is definitely worth going and I would recommend to others such as my friend and family to go as I had learnt lot of variable things during this trip which included, science, mathematics and other. It is definitely worth the money as to view the Singapore and lot of wonderful view such as the Integrated Resort. I felt that Singapore should be built with more attractive structure so as to attract more tourists and improve Singapore‘s economy.

Discussion on Career of choice

I have chosen the job as a Senior manager in quality and safety managment for Singapore International Airline Engineering. I have always wanted to work in an airline environment which i think is really cool. Since young, i liked to dismantle things like my toy planes and i would put the pieces back to its original form. I found the mechanics of the toys is really amazing and this greatly inspired me to become an engineer so that i can fix and build things that will generate great satisfaction . Everytime i see a plane flying in the clear azure sky, i will stare in awe and wonder how such a big and heavy vehicle can soar highly in the sky. i become more strongly determined to find out how planes work and the mechanics behind each and every of the planes. I know there may be risk working in the airline environment such as exposure to terrorist attacks as in the case of Septmeber 11 incident and SQ006 incident, but it does not affect my decision to work in this environment. Thank you and good bye.

Personal details

Hi! I am Eric Lew Shao Quan whose has thick, black hair and small, cute ears. I like a lot of things which is interesting and entertaining and this include playing basketball, jogging in the greenly park, playing addicting computer games such as Dota and counterstrike. I also like to hang out and slack with my friends and discuss and do together about school works that our teacher gave us which is rather hard. I dislike things example having a haircut, shopping alone in a big mall, food that is not nutrient and mosquitoes which often bite me.
My hobbies are playing basketball, jogging in the park, sparring martial art with my brother, play Chinese chess with highly-skilled Chinese chess opponent, playing musical instrument like guitar and piano.
My school life is fun and interesting and I like it very much although I keep getting scolded by teacher for my long hair and this and that. At school, I get to learn about personal discipline and learn about the eight subjects so I can cope for my ‘o’ level and get a ‘o’ level certificate. I also made all kinds of religion friends at school and able to communicate well with them.
My home life is also great and wonderful as I can feel the sense of security of my home. If I had anything that made me felt bottle up, my sibling would lend them their ears to me. I felt so fortunate to live in this kind of environment.
~The End~
